Kung Fu

(1982, Hong Kong)

original title
陰忌 Yīn jì
"avoid the negative"

aka
魔界天書 Mó jiè tiānshū
"devildom bible"

aka
奇門天書 Qí mén tiānshū
"wondrous gates (divination) bible"

Directed by
李超 Lee Chiu
(Executioners from Shaolin, Cantonese Iron Kung Fu,
Ways of Kung Fu, Shaolin Avengers)

It's hard to explain this fantastic film which involves Black Magic, animated corpses, people pissing their pants, and hopping Chinese zombies, but that's just about what it's about. Throw in some bad dubbing, some kung fu with Count Dracula and you've got one crazy mother-truckin' movie.

The
American
Astronaut

(2001, USA)

Written by, Directed by, and Starring
Cory McAbee
(Stingray Sam, The Ketchup and Mustard Man, Crazy and Thief)

Every now and then you see a film that’s just plumb crazy and fun. The American Astronaut is one of them. It’s a fine blend of comedy, music, and science-fiction that’ll have your toes a-tapping. Set in an alternate universe filled with Space Cowboys and antiquated contraptions. A space trader (played by Cory McAbee who wrote and directed) has a special delivery that involves, a cat, a woman in a box, and The Boy Who Once Saw a Woman's Breast. Apparently, all the women are on Venus and the men live a solitary life with out them. He’s followed around by a madman who has a disintegrating gun that turns men into dust. An incredible film that can be watched over and over again. Music provided by The Billy Nayer Show.
