MEGAFORCE (1982, USA|Hong Kong)

(1982, USA|Hong Kong)

Directed and Co-written by
Hal Needham
(Smokey and the Bandit, The Cannonball Run, Hooper, Rad, Stroker Ace)

Deeds, not words. Politically correct before politically correct was even in yet, this feel-good, good-triumphs-over-evil-and-kicks-their-butt kinda movie has members from all nations of the world working together for a common cause: To preserve freedom and justice, battling the forces of tyranny and evil, in every corner of the globe. Not to mention tight jumpsuits, a cheesy parachute love scene, and a flying motorcycle. Remember: The good guys always win, even in the '80s!

Starring Barry Bostwick (The Rocky Horror Picture Show), Michael Beck (The Warriors, Xanadu), Persis Khambata (Star Trek: The Motion Picture), Edward Mulhare (Knight Rider), and Henry Silva (Buck Rogers in the 25th Century).

FREE admission!!!

screening at
Acre 121
1400 Irving St. NW #109, Washington, DC

Just a couple doors west of the Columbia Heights Metro station on the Green/Yellow line.

March 16th

(1977, USA)

Written, Directed, and Produced by
Ralph Bakshi
(Fritz the Cat, The Lord of the Rings, Cool World, Fire and Ice)

A bizarre and psychedelic meditation on magic vs. technology. In a bleak future that's a blend of World War II Europe and Tolkien's Middle-earth, a runty wizard must save the world from fascist mutants controlled by his evil twin brother. Seems the bad bro likes to toy with enemy armies by projecting films of Adolf Hitler speeches during attacks. Painted live-action footage of advancing Nazi armies contrasts with Saturday-morning-cartoon-style animation of fairies and elves. Animator Ralph Bakshi blends everything from swords and sorcery to kung fu and nuclear catastrophe in this bizarre flick.

Featuring the voice talents of
Mark Hamill (Star Wars),
Susan Tyrell (Cry-Baby, Forbidden Zone), and many more!

(1970, Mexico)

Written by, Directed by, and Starring
Alejandro Jodorowsky
(The Holy Mountain, Santa Sangre, Jodorowsky's Dune,
Fando and Lis, The Dance of Reality)

Chew on these peyote buttons, Sparky, cause this surreal western is filled with amputees, blood, freaks, and whippings just like in the Bible only taken with a grain of Buddhism 101. One of the first cult midnight films ever and one of the trippiest.

Plan 9

(1959, USA)

Written, Directed, and Produced by
Ed Wood
(Glen or Glenda, Bride of the Monster, Orgy of the Dead, Jail Bait)

Once every generation, a film defines a genre. Ed Wood's "true" story of aliens raising the dead to kill the living is just such a film.

Bela Lugosi (Dracula, White Zombie, Bride of the Monster), Vampira (The Vampira Show), and Tor Johnson (Bride of the Monster, The Beast of Yucca Flats, Night of the Ghouls, The Unearthly).
